A summer day that forgot to be bright. Aboard a ferry crossing the sea channels of British Columbia, the fog came down and the world reduced itself to this: dark water, heavy sky, and a single point of light burning through the clouds, trailing itself across the surface below.

Traversée was painted from the artist's own photograph taken during that crossing — a moment so particular in its stillness that it demanded to become a painting. Working entirely in a monochromatic palette with a palette knife, the composition strips away color to reveal what remains: light, water, and the feeling of being very small in a very large world.
