At the meeting of three sea lochs — Duich, Long, and Alsh — in the Scottish Highlands, Eilean Donan rises from a tidal island as it has for eight centuries. Associated with Clan Mackenzie and Clan MacRae, destroyed during the Jacobite rebellions, and painstakingly reconstructed in the 20th century, it is a place that carries the full weight of Scottish history in its stones.

This painting was made from life, on location. The mist was real. The amber water, the dissolving hills, the quiet of the bridge before the crowds arrived — all of it witnessed, then carried back to the canvas.
